TIME magazine named Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg its 2010 Person of the Year. At 26, he is the youngest since Charles Lindbergh was named in 1927 at the age of 25.

Zuckerberg recently joined the Giving Pledge effort, founded by Bill Gates and Warren Buffet, promising to donate half of his earnings to charity. Earlier in 2010, he pledged $100 million over 5 years to the Newark (N.J.) Public School system. Zuckerberg owns about one-quarter of Facebook's shares. Created in a Harvard University dorm room, the social networking site has about 500 million users worldwide.

TIME's Person of the Year is the person or thing that has most influenced the culture and the news during the past year for good or for ill.
