The U.S. Marine Corps has banned social networking sites from its computer network, citing data security risks and the possibility of information leaks. The order, which came from Brig. Gen. George Allen, the Marine Corps' CIO, mentions Twitter, Facebook, and MySpace by name, but allows Marines to continue to access defense department-sponsored services.
