Microlocal news site EveryBlock has been acquired by MSNBC.com. EveryBlock offers hyperlocalized community news for 15 of the biggest cities in the U.S., dividing city news by neighborhood, ZIP code, or municipal district. MSNBC plans to leave everyday operations of EveryBlock in the hands of the current management, but the company does plan to expand into other cities. MSNBC.com's investment came at a convenient time-EveryBlock had been operating on a Knight Foundation grant for the previous two years, but that grant ran out June 30.
