Longreads, an online community for readers interested in longform storytelling, announced in a blog post that it has been acquired by Automattic-the company behind Wordpress. Started in April of 2009 (as a Twitter hashtag) by Mark Armstrong Longreads bring together the longform work of writers across the fiction and non-fiction spectrum. In the blog post, Armstrong writes:
"We intend to keep the Longreads Membership active: If you are a Longreads Member, your generous contributions will continue to go toward our editorial budget, to ensure we can bring more stories to this community."
For $3 a month, members can get daily recommendations. You don't have to pay, though, for a free weekly email filled with recommendations. Armstrong writes:
"We see a huge opportunity to go deeper with our mission, both through Longreads and WordPress.com-to find undiscovered talent, to celebrate the work of writers and publishers you already love, and bring even more of the best storytelling onto the Internet. The WordPress.com editorial team is growing, and we're excited to now be a part of it."
