Kids Apps Developers Must Adhere to New Rules in Google Play After FTC Complaint

Jun 04, 2019

Google announced changes to the way it handles apps aimed at kids in its Play Store. According to the blog post, “After taking input from users and developers we are evolving our Google Play policies to provide additional protections for children and families.”

Going forward, all developers will have to declare a target audience for their apps. And if that audience includes children, they’ll have to meet new policy requirements concerning personally identifiable information; serve age-appropriate ads from an approved ad network; male sure your app aimed at adults doesn’t unintentionally appeal to kids.

All new apps are already subject to these new rules. All existing apps must have filled out the new target audience and content section and complied with the updated policies” by September 1, 2019.
