Jabber Inc. has announced the general availability of Jabber MomentIM 5.2. This new, Windows desktop instant messaging client was developed from an entirely new code base and provides full access to and tight integration with Windows capabilities and a COM-based plug-in architecture.
This brandable client delivers features including persistent group chat, notifications and presence settings, web conferencing integration, and interoperability with AOL Instant Messenger (AIM), Google Talk, and other IM clients. New end-user features include: Stacked Tabbed Interface, with the ability to manage multiple open chat windows. Each window is layered with visible tabs providing one click access to the window; Message Prioritization, users can designate a message as ‘high’ or ‘low’ priority; and User Defined Hotkeys for Messages, where users have the ability to define text strings and associate each with a specific hotkey. When the hotkey is used the phrase will automatically be inserted into the message.
Advanced features are available in a bundled plug-in pack and sold separately. The bundle includes: Quick Conference, users can invite contacts to an auto-created temporary group chat; Microsoft Outlook Integration, presence is automatically derived from the Outlook calendar. Chats can be initiated from within Outlook’s mail and contacts interfaces; History on Demand, which enables retrieval of group chat histories; and Disable Outflows, which provides the ability to restrict copy and print functionality in group and one-to-one chats.
