Ingenta Launches Unified Alerting Service; Develops Site with Oxford University Press

Jan 13, 2004

Ingenta Inc. has launched a unified alerting service which searches and delivers alerts across the content available via and, including electronic full-text and fax and Ariel formatted titles. Managed from a single Web interface, the alerting service is available via institutional or individual user license. The new administration module enables librarians to view the number of people registered, and to add and delete users.

Ingenta has also designed and developed Oxford Scholarship Online with Oxford University Press, a Web resource that takes 700 humanities and social sciences scholarly books online. Ingenta's team of developers and designers, based in Providence, Rhode Island and Oxford, responded to OUP's outline specification by developing the functionality and interface design to operate OSO. The $3.5 million, five-year project integrates the original 700 books and an extra 200 titles a year with other online resources via active reference links within footnotes and bibliographies, including journal articles. This enables the user to cross-reference information generated by a single search. Some of the new technical developments created for the Oxford Scholarship Online Web site include: a collection of MathML; content editing tools for the OUP Project Team; search optimization; linking to enhance the user service; and the ability to convert large quantities and multiple types of content.
