In $200 Million Deal, Zynga Buys Draw Something's OMGPOP

Zynga, Inc. acquired game maker OMGPOP, Inc., creators of Draw Something. Zynga paid $180 million plus approximately $30 million in employee-retention payments, according to Peter Kafka of, from Dow Jones & Co. Zynga will get a New York-based team of about 40 people, and a series of games that OMGPOP has produced over the past few years.

Draw Something, which is similar to the board game Pictionary, was reportedly downloaded more than 20 million times in its first 5 weeks of availability. It is also the top-grossing app at iTunes, garnering around $250,000 a day after Apple's 30% share is subtracted.
