Nov 11, 2010

GroupMe, a New York-based company that is developing a group texting system for cell phones, completed a $9 million funding round led by Khosla Ventures. Previous investors First Round Capital, Betaworks, Lerer Ventures, and SV Angel also participated in this round.

GroupMe's texting system allows for the formation of groups of cell phones that can communicate with each other through free broadcast SMS texting. The company was founded 7 months ago by Jared Hecht, a former business development worker at Tumblr, and Steve Martocci, formerly an engineer with Guilt Group.
