Google added a host of social networking-oriented features to its free Gmail email service. Dubbed Google Buzz, the new features give users the ability to share photos, updates, websites, and news with friends and family. In addition to helping network with existing connections, the service can also offer suggestions for people users might be interested in following. The features are integrated directly into Gmail and require no installation or separate configuration.
The new Buzz features will also be accessible via phone or other mobile device, with a specialized mobile version offering unique location-specific functionality such as the ability to have conversations about specific places and see the "buzz" from other nearby users. Google Buzz is being rolled out gradually over the course of several days, with the process having begun on February 9.
