Google has announced that the latest version of the Google Toolbar is out of beta and available for download at http://toolbar.google.com. Google's free browser utility is designed to enable users to search from any page on the Web and offers pop-up blocking,
Web form filling, and a new Blogger button that makes posting to Blogger.com weblogs quick and easy.
The Google Toolbar is a search and web surfing utility that integrates with users' Web browsers. New features of the Google Toolbar 2.0 include: Pop-up Blocker--Blocks pop-ups while users surf the Web. AutoFill--Completes Web forms with information that is saved on a user's own computer. BlogThis--Helps users Make posting links to Blogger.com weblogs. Additional features include: Google Search, Search Site, PageRank,. Highlight, and Word Find.
This announcement follows several recent Google search enhancements including: Calculator: Enables users to solve mathematic problems by entering numeric expressions into the google.com or the Google Toolbar search boxes. (www.google.com/help/features.html#calculator) Google News Alerts: An automatic news alert system that notifies subscribers via email about Google News listings related to a specified subject. (www.google.com/newsalerts) Tilde ~ Operator: A new search command that enables users to search not only for a particular keyword, but also for its synonyms. This is accomplished by placing a ~ character directly in front of the keyword in the search box. Google has also announced that a growing number of pharmaceutical, technology, consumer products and government institutions have adopted the Google Search Appliance (GSA) in an effort to enable customers and employees to find the products and information they need more easily and efficiently.
New GSA customers include Pfizer, Xerox, Hitachi Data Systems, Nextel Communications, Procter & Gamble, Discovery Communications, the U. S. Army, the San Diego Union-Tribune, and the City of San Diego. Launched in early 2002, the GSA is currently deployed by institutions in a range of industries, including aerospace, technology, broadcasting, retail, government, and education.
The GSA is available in three models: the GB-1001, for departments and mid-sized companies; the GB-5005, for dedicated, high-priority search services such as customer-facing Web sites and company-wide intranet applications; and the GB-8008, for centralized deployments supporting global business units. GSA pricing starts at $28,000, including two years of support and software updates.
