Google acquired Zagat Survey, LLC, a restaurant review and recommendation guide founded more than 32 years ago. First delivering these recommendations on pocket-sized guides, Zagat will now become a part of Google's local offering. According to Google's blog, Zagat will leverage Google search and Google Maps to create a local service for finding new experiences based on Zagat reviews, ratings, and insights.
Zagat was one of the first organizations to use consumer-based surveys and user-generated content to create and distribute restaurant recommendations and ratings. Its 30-point rating scale is well-known and widely used for restaurants, hotels, shopping, and entertainment.
