Feb 09, 2012

ContentNext Media, Inc., previously part of Guardian News & Media (GNM) Ltd., has joined forces with GigaOM, owned by Giga Omni Media, Inc. In a blog post, GigaOM's founder, Om Malik, said that the terms of the deal will not be disclosed, but GigaOM is buying,, contentSutra, and paidContent:UK.

The ContentNext editorial and business staffs will remain intact, the companies announced, and the acquisition will create a team of more than 20 writers and editors. GigaOM reported that its readers can "expect to see more coverage of social and digital media at events, on and in GigaOM Pro research reports."

A GNM representative will join the GigaOM board of directors as an observer, Malik added. Under the terms of the purchase, GNM will take a minority stake in GigaOM and join existing GigaOM investors, including Reed Elsevier Ventures, Alloy Ventures, and True Ventures. The deal marks the end of GNM's stewardship of ContextNext.
