Gale has announced the launch of Consulta 2.0, its Spanish-language resource center now featuring an English interface to assist those who are learning the language and culture. Consulta is the centerpiece of Gale's growing line of products designed to serve Spanish-speaking students and library patrons. In addition to the optional English interface, other enhancements to this version include: help in English; better phrase searching in dictionaries; the ability to add images to the basic search; improved thematic/subject searching; more information on Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic; and a map center and anatomical atlas.
Gale's partner, Barcelona-based Grupo Océano, has contributed much of Consulta's reference content, some of which has never before been available in the U.S. Gale's Resource Center concept provides the framework for the database, which combines periodicals, reference content, and digitized original documents and images. The Spanish-language line of products has been one of Gale's key product development strategies for several years. Gale's relationship with Oceano has continued to develop since 2001, when Gale began distributing Océano titles in North America and Océano launched a program to translate Gale works into Spanish. The creation of an esolution, such as Consulta, has been an ongoing goal of the partnership.
