BEST PRACTICES SERIES

Flat World Knowledge will be providing its textbooks to Bookshare, an online library for people with "print disabilities," or a condition that affects their ability to read. Between 1% and 2% of the U.S. population has print disabilities that qualify for Bookshare. The agreement makes Flat World Knowledge digital textbooks accessible to more than 75,000 Bookshare members who are blind or who have low vision, a physical disability, or a severe learning disability that affects reading.

The open content license of Flat World books will allow other users to benefit from accessible content, including students who are learning English, those who have mild or undiagnosed disabilities, and those who benefit from multi-modal reading with a combination of simultaneous highlighted text and computer-generated speech.
