FileNet Corporation, a provider of Enterprise Content Management (ECM) solutions, has announced support for new portal computing standards known as Java Specification Request 168 (JSR 168) and Web Services for Remote Portlets (WSRP). The company also plans to support the forthcoming JSR 170 standard. These open portal standards are intended to enable companies to easily integrate applications and content through enterprise portal frameworks, which are increasingly being used as a platform to deploy and develop applications.

FileNet expects to expand its current suite of portlets and offer a development framework to support the new standards. These solutions will enable companies to add ECM functionality to other systems and applications via portlets. The result is a Web application development infrastructure that enables businesses to develop content-rich applications that deliver information when and where it is needed. FileNet users will be able to leverage FileNet's content, process, and connectivity capabilities from any portal framework, including those from portal vendors such as BEA, Oracle, IBM, Plumtree, SAP, and Sun Microsystems. The integration solutions will be standards-compliant, but differentiated and will be optimized for each portal environment.
