Facebook for the Enterprise?

BEST PRACTICES SERIES

We all know consumer technology is infiltrating the workplace and changing employee expectations. Facebook knows this too. Recode and others report that Facebook soft-launched its Facebook at Work tool. It is basically exactly what it sounds like-Facebook that limits your network to your colleagues.

Though Facebook posted the new tool in the App Store, it is only downloadable to a select group of pilot partners. This could ultimately be a boon for intranet advocates, who often hear users complain that the tools they use at work are not as user-friendly as the tools they work at home. After all, what could be more user-friendly than a tool that billions of people already choose to use.

In the end, the goal for Facebook seems to be a new monetization strategy-not to mention growing its user-base, which is bound to plateau.
