Elsevier Engineering Information has launched the U.S. National Technical Information Service (NTIS) database on the Engineering Village 2, a Web-based discovery platform for the engineering community. The NTIS database is a source for accessing unclassified reports from U.S. and international government agencies. Engineering Village 2 now offers subscribers the ability to search three Engineering databases simultaneously. Users can search the NTIS database combined with Compendex, a bibliographic database covering the engineering field, and the IEE's Inspec. In addition to the full-text linking currently offered on Engineering Village 2, the NTIS database provides links to the NTIS document ordering service to help facilitate the process of requesting government documents electronically. Once users are able to identify the documents necessary for their research, they are given the mechanism to order them, in an effort to speed the research process.
