BEST PRACTICES SERIES

Endeavor Information Systems has demonstrated library software at the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions Annual Conference in Berlin, Germany with confirmation of the pre-release testing for the application of the Unicode Standard in the Voyager integrated library management system and the ENCompass system for managing, searching and linking collections.

The new release of Voyager allows libraries to convert bibliographic, holdings and authority records in Voyager to the Unicode UTF-8 standard and provides support for the input, display and searching of multilingual records. The standard, transparent and current implementations of the Unicode Standard ensure input and display of non-Roman characters is accurate and smooth for libraries. The integration of the Unicode Standard expands the current Latin-1 support of ENCompass. ENCompass 3.5 enables libraries to load, store, and display non-Roman characters for local digital content. Metadata will be loaded and stored in UTF-8 and all data sent to web interface will be UTF-8 compliant.
