Elsevier Releases Article-Based Publishing Model

Oct 12, 2010

Elsevier has launched Article-Based Publishing, a new publishing model that allows articles to be published as citable without having to wait for the completion of the journal issue that they're set to appear in. The model was created in response to the increased prevalence of online publishing and the need for publishing focused on individual articles rather than traditional print-based issues. Elsevier reports that Article-Based Publishing increases the speed with which articles are published by about 7 weeks on average.

In 2011, Elsevier has plans to make it possible for one journal to have multiple issues in progress at the same time. This will further reduce publishing times, Elsevier reports.
