ESPN Won't Be Available a la Carte Anytime Soon

Disney CEO Bob Iger said that ESPN and its other networks may be offered a la carte, but not within the next five years. "Technology is the most disruptive force that so-called traditional media ... is facing," he told CNBC's Squawk Box.

The Disney Channel could also be up for standalone purchase eventually. Iger said, "While the business model may face challenges over the next few years, long term for ESPN ... they'll be fine. They have pricing leverage, too. Disney [Channel] is another ... brand and product that could be sold directly to the customer."

Clearly, though, Disney is not rushing to debundle its products from cable, even while the like of HBO and Showtime have success with the model.
