Content creation company Demand Media debuted on the New York Stock Exchange under the stock symbol DMD. The debut comes after a successful IPO that brought the company $151.3 million. The company owns a portfolio of content websites that includes eHow, Cracked.com, and GolfLink.com, and was founded in 2006 by former Myspace chairman Richard Rosenblatt.
Demand Media is built on an algorithm that determines popular topics with high advertising potential, then commissions writers on a freelance basis to create content for those topics. The company then populates its various sites with the content.
