Artesia Technologiesannounced that the Courtauld Institute of Art, a College of the Federal University of London, has implemented the company's TEAMS digital asset management solution. The use of this technology underpins the Art and Architecture project, which will broaden access to Courtauld's priceless collections of paintings, drawings and photography. Along with images of the six hundred paintings on display in the Courtauld Gallery, TEAMS will store high-resolution digital versions of the 6,000 works on paper--currently held in store and accessible only by appointment--as well as an additional 35,000 images from the Conway Library of photographs and sculptures drawn from around the world. Working with a grant from the UK's New Opportunities Fund, the Courtauld Institute will use the TEAMS system to create an online learning resource providing Web-based access to these images. This will allow researchers to precisely catalog the images using thesaurus-driven keyword selections to create extensive links that overlay the underlying assets, which will allow end users to enter and explore the collection from many different angles. The TEAMS thesaurus functionality allows assets to be catalogued using a single authority for keywords and concepts, ensuring consistency and continuity through the project and beyond. The archive's long-term value and continuity is further ensured by TEAMS' automated processes, which capture valuable technical information about the asset automatically upon import.
