ContentGuard, a provider of Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology and Central Research Laboratories (CRL) Ltd., the technology generation arm of Scipher, have agreed to collaborate on the implementation of MPEG-REL, the forthcoming ISO rights expression language, within the open source project, MPEG Open Security for Embedded Systems (MOSES). As a result, a profile of the MPEG-REL, along with rights interpretation software, has been included in the MOSES implementation to enable the use of rights and conditions for multimedia digital content.

The MOSES implementation (www.crl.co.uk/projects/moses), funded through the European Commission 5th Framework project, extends CRL's previous work in the protection of digital content distributed to Consumer Electronic and resource constrained devices using open and interoperable standards. The MPEG-REL, based on ContentGuard's XrML (eXtensible rights Markup Language), is expected for release as an ISO Standard later this year.
