ConsumerReports.org has exceeded one million active paid subscribers, reportedly a first among traditional media properties in only five years of existence. ConsumerReports.org was one of the early leaders in charging consumers for its content. In the dot-com heyday, this dot-org's early pay-for-access status was a radical departure from the popular ad-supported business strategy. However, that model was never considered by CU, which has never accepted advertising in any of its publications. In addition to the subscribers to its own site, Consumer Reports reaches online consumers through content distribution agreements with a broad array of outlets including: Yahoo!, America Online, MSN, Amazon, Babycenter.com, mysimon.com, computers.com, ZDNet, and Dealtime.com. Consumer Reports ratings and recommendations are also available through wireless Web access provider AvantGo.
