Consolidated Edison Chooses FileNet ECM

Sep 26, 2003

FileNet Corporation, a provider of enterprise content management (ECM) solutions, has

announced that Consolidated Edison (Con Edison), New York, has implemented a FileNet ECM solution in an effort to automate and streamline the processing of business communications between its Compliance Department and the New York Department of Transportation (DOT). This implementation is designed to ensure compliance with DOT-issued Corrective Action Reports (CARs) and will automate the processing of Notices of Violations (NOVs).

A FileNet customer since 1992, Con Edison contracted FileNet and FileNet ValueNet partner TriTek Solutions to expand the capabilities of its existing FileNet system. The FileNet ECM solution is intended to allow Con Edison to replace its manual processes with an automated workflow solution that electronically captures, links, stores, retrieves, and manages all information related to each notice or summons issued by the New York DOT. Incoming CARs and NOVs are scanned into the FileNet system and routed electronically to the responsible Con Edison manager for investigation and

decision making. The system's automatic email notification capability reminds responsible parties that CARs are still pending if a response has not been received by the Compliance Department within five days.

The enhancements to Con Edison's FileNet system were implemented at the utility's Manhattan headquarters and at several sites in the five boroughs of New York City. The enhanced processes enable Con Edison to accelerate and improve communication among its borough offices, which Con Edison believes will also improve safety related issues in the communities that they serve.
