Comcast is Blocking HBO Go on Playstation

Mar 09, 2015

If you're a Comcast customer who has been looking forward to using the HBO Go app on your Playstation 4, you're probably very upset right about now. As TechDirt reports, Comcast is basically refusing to confirm that you are a paying cable customer, which results in customers not being allowed to use the service. This has been a problem before with other devices, like Roku boxes, which was only resolved when Roku filed an FCC complaint.

In the past, Comcast has claimed these issues were merely technical problems, but according to TechDirt, Comcast is now saying, "HBO Go availability on PS3 (and some other devices) are business decisions and deal with business terms that have not yet been agreed to between the parties. Thanks for your continued patience." Yet, the apps work with every other ISP provider.

Comcast customers are probably not surprised by any of this. It's clear that the company is scrambling to compete with OTT providers, but instead of enticing its customers with actual value, it often resorts to tricks like this that enrage customers and appear desperate.
