Changes Coming to Twitter’s API

Aug 17, 2012

Twitter will be changing how its API is being used in the coming weeks and moving developers from the current version 1.0 to the new version 1.1. According to a company blog, three significant changes to the API will be required authentication on every API endpoint, a new per-endpoint rate-limiting methodology, and changes to the company's Developer Rules of the Road in regards to applications that are traditional Twitter clients.

When version 1.1 is released, developers will have six months to migrate applications from version 1.0 to 1.1. Twitter sees this change as a way for developers to not only build applications using data and content from Twitter but also build interactive Twitter Cards.
