Big Fish Games, a video game publisher in Seattle, is using Apple's subscription feature to offer its titles on the iPad. Big Fish will let iPad users subscribe to access to dozens of its games for $6.99 per month. Games are streamed to the iPad from Big Fish's data centers and will require Wi-Fi. Big Fish expects an Android version to be available in 1Q 2012.
Introduced in February, the paid subscription feature has so far been used by magazine and newspaper publishers; this is the first time a company has used the feature to offer access to games. Previously, games could be accessed one at a time and downloaded from individual apps. The subscription will eliminate separate downloads for each game and will allow players to jump from one game to another, with similar functionality to the Netflix, Inc. iPad app.
