Bookseller Barnes & Noble moved to expand its pilot program for textbook rentals through its prolific college bookstores. Previously a pilot program conducted through just 3 of its over 600 campus stores, the program will now expand to encompass some 25 schools, including Ohio State University, the University of Maryland, and the University of Southern California.
The program, which launched in the fall of last year, allows students to rent textbooks either directly through their campus bookstores or through the store's accompanying e-commerce site. In addition to traditional forms of payment, the service accepts payment in the form of campus-specific debit cards and financial aid. The company indicated that the program has been very popular with both students and faculty.
