Backfence Receives Funding; Names New Members to Advisory Board

Backfence Inc. has announced that it has closed on a Series A round of funding and has named a group of media and technology industry executives to its Advisory Board. The $3 million investment from SAS Investors and Omidyar Network will allow Backfence to fund expansion of its hyper-local citizens' media Web sites into additional communities in the Washington, D.C.-area and into at least two additional U.S. metropolitan areas.

In addition to SAS Investors and Omidyar Network, a small group of Washington-area angel investors also participated in the round, including Dr. Edward Bersoff, former CEO of BTG Inc.; Frank Bonsal Jr., co-founder of New Enterprise Associates; and John Burton, General Partner of Updata. Bersoff, Bonsal and Burton also are joining the Backfence advisory board.

In addition to announcing its Series A funding, Backfence named to its Advisory Board six executives with media and business experience. They are: William Allman, Merrill Brown, Michael Rogers, Dr. Edward Bersoff, Frank Bonsal Jr., and John Burton.
