As it neared a milestone, Apple opened the Countdown to 25 Billion Apps competition, announcing that the person to download the 25-billionth app could win a $10,000 iTunes gift card. SlashGear reported that Chunli Fu of Qingdao, China, won the contest with the free version of Where's My Water?, a Disney-produced game that challenges the player with physics-based puzzles.
"When we launched the App Store less than four years ago, we never imagined that mobile apps would become the phenomenon they have, or that developers would create such an incredible selection of apps for iOS users," said Eddy Cue, Apple's senior vice president of internet software and services.
Apple recent acquired Chomp, from Chomp, Inc., to boost its store's app discovery. Apple also hired Microsoft's Xbox LIVE chief Robin Burrowes to propel App Store marketing.
