Amazon Pondering Its Own Online TV Service

Oct 08, 2015

Amazon Prime Instant Video already brings TV shows and movies to your connected devices on-demand, but now rumors are surfacing that suggest it may be thinking about launching its own online television service. According to Bloomberg, Amazon has reached out to networks like CBS and NBC about including the channels in Amazon's line-up.

While no sources seem willing to go on record, Dan Rayburn wrote on StreamingMediaBlog.com, "While Amazon has already confirmed they plan to integrate Elemental's live linear platform into their AWS platform and offer it as a service, acquiring Elemental will also give Amazon their own in-house platform needed to make an Amazon branded live OTT service possible." Amazon bought the Elemental platform for a reported $500 million.
