Amazon Looks to Acquire Dorchester Publishing Assets

Jun 28, 2012

Reports suggest that it's likely Amazon Publishing will acquire the assets of defunct Dorchester Publishing, according to Digital Book World. Dorchester, a company known for publishing romance, Westerns, and horror titles, will be put up for auction and Amazon is ready to snatch up Dorchester's backlist of titles.

Dorchester experienced financial troubles in recent years and finally closed down in February. Amazon is the lead bidder and unless another company outbids it, which is unlikely, the catalog goes to Amazon. With the Dorchester catalog, Amazon would look to release the paperback novels into ebook form, which Dorchester was not able to do. Final bids must be received by August 15.
