The American Institute of Physics (AIP) announced the launch of a pilot program that allows individuals to "rent" single articles for a 24-hour period for $0.99. The service, created by DeepDyve, allows users to read, but not download or print, the full text of an article. AIP will be offering their new article rental service on an experimental basis until the end of September.

The new AIP service offers users a broad range of features, including persistent searches, e-mail and RSS alerts, and the ability to bookmark articles. The service also features DeepDyve's KeyPhraseTM search technology, which allows returned results to be based on the relevance of the full text, rather than popularity.
