3GMC and CinemaElectric Launch DVB-H Mobile Video Trials

Sep 20, 2005

CinemaElectric, Inc. and 3G Media Consult BV have launched Portable Hollywood, a made-for-mobile video channel in DVB-H trials in the Netherlands.

In the follow-on Dutch Mobile Interactive TV trial, Cinema Electric and 3GMC will test the technical and commercial aspects of broadcast mobile TV using the DVB-H standard. With DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcasting-Handheld), content is transmitted with a very high picture and audio quality to large numbers of mobile users. An important part of the Dutch study will consist of evaluating the opportunities for interactive services made possible by combining a broadcast service with a mobile network. Under the agreement, 3GMC will provide one feed of TV content showing recent film trailers and Portable Hollywood news, integrated with an interactive movie quiz. The feed will be captured and broadcast via satellite to the Mobile Operators network infrastructure to the participants' mobile phones in The Netherlands. The film newscast, interactive phone components and mobile downloads will be assembled by 3G Media Consult BV, a mobile content service provider. The video clips will be updated frequently.

Portable Hollywood features these programs in mobile streaming and downloadable formats: "Red Carpet," which features celebrity interviews and glamour from the red carpet. "Close Up," which is a close-up look at Hollywood celebrities; "Behind The Scene," on-set footage from movies and TV; "Wannabe Famous," a made-for-mobile reality series that follows young actors trying to make it in Hollywood; "Now Appearing," movie previews, reviews and updates, what is new and opening in theaters; "Gossip Mill," inside gossip from Hollywood; "Hollywood Style," which features the drama, disaster and triumph of celebrity fashion; and "Now On DVD," which showcases the latest DVD releases.
