Article ImageRobert J. Boeri is currently a senior business systems analyst at the PCAOB. He has more than 30 years experience as a publishing and content management systems professional, in both the private and public sectors. A recurring theme in these assignments has been a lifecycle approach to system selection and deployment, with a focus on effective, enthusiastic user acceptance. Bob has been fortunate to witness emerging trends in computer hardware and software, influence those trends, and evaluate them as a journalist in EContent and EMedia magazines. Bob is a long-term member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and a member of The Association for Information and Image Management. He recently completed the National Archives Federal Records Management Training program certification. After hours, he maintains his website and Content Curmudgeon blog and is an avid organic gardener and brewer of wine and beer.

Ron Miller has been writing about technology since 1988. He has written dozens of articles covering enterprise, small business, and consumer issues. He is a contributing editor of EContent, the "Random Access" columnist for BusinessWeek SmallBiz, and regularly contributes to many other publications. His writing credits also include PC Magazine Online, Linux Pipeline, Federal Computer Week,, EMedia, Smart Computing, and others. Ron won a 2007 Apex Award for Publication Excellence for his Jan/Feb 2006 EContent article "Web Content Takes the Access Ramp: Designing Sites with Accessibility in Mind." He won a 2006 Apex award for his June 2005 EContent article, "Journalism Returns to its Grassroots." In addition, Ron is a freelance technical writer and has developed documentation, online help, and web-based and classroom training for corporate clients such as Johnson & Johnson, ING, Bain & Company, Dun & Bradstreet, and many others. Ron contributes regularly to his blog, by Ron Miller, where he writes about technology.

Tony Byrne is the founder of CMS Watch, an independent analyst firm that provides vendor-neutral evaluations of content technologies. Tony founded CMS Watch on the belief that technology analysts should work primarily for system buyers rather than system vendors. He leads a team of analysts who research web content management, enterprise portals, records management, and enterprise search technologies by investigating how the tools are really implemented in production. He also consults with leading global enterprises to help them select and implement the right content technologies. A 17-year technology veteran, Tony is a former radio reporter, publisher, and international educator, and has headed the engineering and production groups at an IT consulting firm.

Walt Crawford is a writer in Mountain View, Calif. Crawford was a full-time (or almost full-time) professional in library automation from 1968 through September 2007, working at RLG from 1979 until June 1996 and on the OCLC-RLG transition through September 2007. Crawford served as president of the Library and Information Technology Association (LITA), a division of the American Library Association, in 1992–93. An award-winning writer and speaker, Crawford has written 16 published books and some 500 articles and columns. He speaks occasionally on the future of libraries and the media, and on technology-related topics, with more than a hundred speeches to date. Walt writes the "disContent" column in EContent magazine and the new "Crawford at Large" column in ONLINE magazine. He also writes and publishes Cites & Insights: Crawford at Large, a web-distributed journal of libraries, policy, technology, and media, which was created in December 2000. He writes a blog called Walt at Random. His most recent books are Balanced Libraries: Thoughts on Continuity and Change and Public Library Blogs: 252 Examples.

After earning a Ph.D from Harvard in 1968, Bob Doyle spent much of his life building and professionalizing low-cost communications tools. These include Super 8 Sound, the lowest-cost film medium in the '70s; MacPublisher, the first desktop publishing tool in the '80s; desktop video production in the '90s; and skyBuilders web publishing, which helped create the first podcast in 2003. Bob was a founding board member and first executive director of the CM Professionals community of practice. He edits several content management-related websites:,,,,,, and Doyle also runs the major mailing lists for the CMS community: CMS, CMS-PR, ContentManagers, and CMPROS (a members-only list). Doyle is CEO of, which hosts more than 100 websites, mostly for nonprofit organizations in the Boston area. He is currently developing an open-source small-enterprise information management system with his son Derek.

Paula J. Hane is news bureau chief for Information Today, Inc. and is responsible for the news coverage on the website. She writes a monthly column for Information Today, as well as feature articles and interviews. She also writes regularly for the enewsletter, NewsLink, and for The CyberSkeptic's Guide to Internet Research. Hane was the editor of Database magazine (the predecessor of EContent) from 1988 to 1996 and has been with ITI since 1996. Paula holds a master's degree in library science and another in English literature, and previously worked as an academic reference librarian. She's been an online database searcher since the early 1980s and was an early adopter and promoter of PC and web technologies. She edited Great Scouts!: CyberGuides for Subject Searching on the Web by Nora Paul and Margot Williams and is the author of Super Searchers in the News: The Online Secrets of Journalists and News Researchers.
