Job Function:
At Connectbeam, a company that seeks to bring Web 2.0 information sharing and collaboration into the daily workflow of enterprise employees, Shinji Yaguma focuses on bringing products to market. "I am part of a small team that researches the market landscape, engages with customers to determine need, writes product requirements, and produces presentations," says Yaguma. He also works with contractors and internal teams to oversee and drive the software product life cycle.

It’s important for Yaguma to maintain an understanding of how Connectbeam’s customers are using products and which enhancements they want to see. "I am at the front line of customer interaction. This means actively fielding incoming calls and messages and setting up calls and virtual meetings with customers to get feedback."

In A Day’s Work:
Yaguma’s morning at the office starts (with a cup of high-octane coffee in hand)  between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. His average workday includes customer calls to gather product feedback and conversations with Connectbeam’s engineering team to determine status on product milestones or on any open customer-reported issues.

"I also have meetings with my colleagues in the marketing team to cover ongoing project status, timelines, and resource allocation," Yaguma says, and he spends time writing requirements for future feature enhancements. Throughout his day, Yaguma uses Connectbeam’s core application to discover and share articles and documents with everyone in his organization.

Most Memorable Customer Encounter:
"When one of our first large customers deployed the Connectbeam product, there was a small IT army on the customer side to help with setup and deployment. But it only took me, a colleague, and three people on the customer side to have them up and running in less than 20 minutes. What made it memorable was that when the application came up for the first time, we received a standing ovation from our customer over the conference phone."

View From The Desk:
"I sit in a cube. When I look up, I see to-do lists and to-read articles posted on my cube walls. The window behind me offers a view of tall trees and bushes, the parking lot, and the front entrance to the neighboring building."

Outside Interest:
"I enjoy attending concerts and shows. Music has always been a huge part of my life and there’s nothing like attending live performances of my favorite bands."

If Not Econtent, Then What?
"When my son turned 1, there were few educational products for kids his age." Four years later, he says, "I remember some of those ideas [I had], and I may have a go at turning them into real products."
