TechCrunch reported on September 9, 2013 that Twitter bought MoPub for $350 million worth of stock. MoPub is a startup focused on enabling mobile publishers to manage their ad inventory. Twitter and MoPub have confirmed the acquisition though not the price.

Amazon launched the Mexico Kindle Store), offering Mexican customers a vast selection of popular ebooks, Spanish-language best sellers, over 1,500 free books in Spanish, and a broad selection of titles from leading Mexican authors and publishers. In total, the Kindle Store offers over 2 million titles, hundreds of thousands of which are exclusive, and more than 70,000 in Spanish. In addition, Amazon announced that Kindle and Kindle Paperwhite are now on sale locally in Mexico at Gandhi stores.

Netflix announced that it will trade in the familiar "Instant Queue" for the "My List" feature to no small amount of consternation. (Slate already published an article on how to get your Instant Queue back.) For its part, Netflix says, "We've designed a better way to help you easily find and watch those titles you picked to watch on Netflix and are happy to introduce "My List" to all our streaming members globally. With "My List" you can now quickly go to your own row or gallery on Netflix and instantly find those titles you already picked to watch."

NewSpring led the funding round with an $8 million investment, and existing investors Kohlberg Ventures, Azure Capital, and Golden Seeds supplied the difference.

FightMe is a new competitive social video network. Users are able to showcase any talent, voice opinions, and get recognition. The London-based startup launched into private beta in early June, allowing its users to create 30-second, unedited, raw videos about whatever they want. Users can create bespoke hashtags to compete for the top spot, by showing off a talent, an opinion or by just getting creative and having fun. Apple may have been found guilty of anti-trust in the legal system - a ruling that the company is appealing - but things aren't as clear cut in the court of public opinion, and the whole thing just keeps getting murkier and murkier. The five publishers that were originally named in the suit are unhappy with the terms of Apple's punishment, which would require that Apple be allowed to discount its ebooks for five years - even though the original settlement between the publishers and the DOJ agreed to two years. Publishers are calling this punitive, meanwhile, Apple intends to appeal the court's ruling and has requested a stay of all the court's rulings until its appeal can be heard. The request to stay the rulings was denied. Judge Denise Cote is also reportedly considering limiting Apple to negotiating with one publisher per every six months.

Google has joined the e-textbook movement, rolling out a textbook section for Google Play. It joins the ranks of Barnes & Noble and Amazon, which have long offered e-textbooks for sale, and rent. Available to Android and iOS users, the e-textbooks available on Google Play are mostly available for purchase with a select few able to be rented, according to Gigaom.

The Washington Post Co. has long been owned by the Graham family, but it revealed on Monday, August 4, that it had agreed to sell the flagship publication to Jeffrey Bezos, most famous for founding Amazon, Inc. The Washington Post says that Bezos will pay $250 million in cash for it and affiliated newspapers.

According to reports from Quartz, Google is looking to give its local news service a boost by integrating it with Google Now. The search giant's Now service focuses on deliver contextually relevant content via mobile devices. Google Now is built into new Android devices and the Google Search app for iPhone, but the local news "card" is still in beta testing and only available to Google employees.
