Verizon Communications Inc. and Intel Corporation announced an agreement for Verizon to purchase from Intel the assets of Intel Media, a business division dedicated to the development of Cloud TV products and services. The transaction will accelerate the availability of next-generation video services, both integrated with Verizon FiOS fiber-optic networks and delivered OTT to any device.

This time around, the social media powerhouse has Flipboard in its sights as reports of the impending release of Facebook Paper filter out. According to re/code, Paper could be out sometime this month and will aggregate your news into a Flipboard-like app for mobile users.

Josh Miller, co-founder and CEO of Branch and Potluck, announced on January 14, 2014, that the company has been acquired by Facebook and will be joining the Facebook Conversations group in New York City. Miller says that Facebook has asked the Branch team to build their product at "Facebook scale."

VisualGraph announced on its site that it is now part of Pinterest. VisualGraph is a machine-driven search platform that specializes in visual content. VPDS is a full service offering that includes digital conversion, transcription, metadata creation, and optional hosting and streaming. It also creates transcriptions and indexes A/V content stored on tapes, hard drives, and other media. All formats of video - even those that are obsolete -- are eligible for the service.

Brightcove Inc., a provider of cloud services for video, announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire substantially all the assets of Unicorn Media, a provider of cloud video ad insertion technology. Based on a $14 price per share of Brightcove common stock, the transaction is valued at approximately $49 million. The purchase price consists of approximately 2.9 million shares of Brightcove stock and approximately $9.0 million of cash used to pay transaction and other expenses of Unicorn Media.

If you turned to Snapchat for the privacy its private, vanishing messaging provided you will be more than a little disappointed to hear the company has been hacked. It started when Gibson Security claimed Snapchat's API was vulnerable. Snapchat responded on its blog by saying there were "theorhetical" dangers, and that it had implemented safeguards to help address book information safe. But then a hacker group responded by posting 4.6 million usernames and phone numbers in a downloadable database-just in time to ring in the new year.

The company says it has worked, and so now it is testing video ads. Many social networks just ignore the protestations of their users when changes to the layout or privacy settings enrage the masses. But when Twitter decided to change its block feature, the outcry from users was heard, and quickly responded to. The change would keep a user from seeing the activity of a user they had blocked -- but would not keep the blocked user from seeing the activity of the person who had blocked them.

Data Conversion Laboratory (DCL) announced it has entered into a co-operative agreement with the Library of Congress (LOC) to act as an agent for deposit of eSerials on behalf of publishers to fulfill mandatory deposit demands and deposits in support of copyright registration at the U.S. Copyright Office and Library of Congress. This agreement follows a Request for Information about Normalized Electronic Serial Content issued by LOC in April 2012, and subsequent public notice of invitation for third parties to act as agents for deposit.

According to Gigaom, Bloomberg launched an app on Apple TV on December 11, that provides a live feed of financial news and on-demand content.
