The Google ad experience as we know it is changing. The search giant will no longer serve text ads in the right rail of search results. Instead, text ads will appear above and/or below search results. Additionally, users can expect an extra ad-four instead of three-above the search results for what Google calls "highly commercial queries." According to Search Engine Land, Google has been testing variations of this for quite a while.

Adjust announced a major product addition to its mobile attribution and analytics system with the Fraud Prevention Suite. With the product release, app developers and marketers will be able to leverage a comprehensive suite of tools that analyze and intervene in hundreds of millions of user acquisition workflows to prevent fraudulent activity from claiming payouts. The company says early beta results of the Fraud Prevention Suite indicate a substantial improvement in campaign activity with an estimated $1.7 million identified within 17 days, based on recent CPI rates of fraudulent charges.

Nearly half of small businesses in the U.S. operate without a website, according to a new survey of 350+ small businesses from Clutch, a B2B research firm. Irrelevancy to their business and expense were the top reasons cited by most respondents for why they choose not to have a website. Despite these findings, website experts stress that small businesses that do not have a website should seriously consider developing one--even the simplest, low cost, 1-2 page site--in order to have a greater online presence.

Collective Bias, a provider of shopper-focused influencer marketing, revealed new data from its Time on Content feature, an indicator of the relevancy and quality of influencer content. Through Time on Content, the company found that consumers view their influencer content for an average duration of two minutes and eight seconds, which is almost seven times longer than the digital display ad average of 19.2 seconds based on viewability standards as measured by Moat Analytics. During the holidays, time spent with influencer content increased to two minutes and 21 seconds.

Facebook announced on its Parse blog that as of January 28, 2017, it will no longer offer its Parse service, which helped users build mobile apps. Over the next year, Facebook will sunset the service, giving current users time to make alternate plans for their apps. The post says, "We are committed to maintaining the backend service during the sunset period, and are providing several tools to help migrate applications to other services."

Newly-released findings show that the Data-Driven Marketing Economy (DDME) contributed nearly 1 million jobs to the United States in 2014, and added $202 billion in revenue to the U.S. economy. The new research, commissioned by the Direct Marketing Association (DMA) and titled "The Value of Data 2015: Consequences for Insight, Innovation & Efficiency in the U.S. Economy," builds on the Value of Data report released in 2013 and quantifies the growth in the DDME, which saw a 49% increase in jobs and 35% growth in revenue between 2012 and 2014.

Facebook is taking a queue from Twitter's Periscope and other live video sharing apps. Users of Facebook's iPhone app can now broadcast their own live video in the U.S. and the company says it plans to roll out the functionality to the rest of the world in the coming weeks. Simply select the "Update Status" option while in the app and then choose the Live Video icon to start sharing your video.

According to PubMatic's Quarterly Mobile Index for Q4 2015 "advertisers are directing spending to higher-quality inventory, especially through more transparent mobile private marketplaces (PMPs)." This is, in part, a reaction to the problem of questionable ad impressions, and the effort by premium publishers to eradicate the problem. Subsequently, premium publishers are able to command higher prices for their ad inventory, according to PubMatic, and attract "more mobile ad spend, effectively closing the mobile gap between mobile ad spending and mobile media consumption."

CloudEngage introduced its latest website engagement tool, ActionPop. ActionPop is a form of virtual scratch-card for website visitors. Advanced layering technology allows customers to interact more deeply with promotions on a retail or dealer website by scratching or wiping the promo to reveal a hidden offer or other message. According to the company, because ActionPop requires interaction, customers engage with the content more than a normal promotion, and feel greater ownership of the content. In an effort to refine the linear TV and digital video ad experience for both consumers and advertisers, Turner announced today Turner Ad Lab, a new joint initiative between the company and the industry. Turner Ad Lab will be led by an advisory board made up of representatives from industry trade organizations, research companies, ad tech start-ups and the advertising community. Contently launched a new study, Content Marketing 2016: Staffing, Measurement, and Effectiveness Across the Industry. Between November 24 and December 2, 2015, Contently surveyed 632 marketers with an online survey of 25 questions. Of the respondents, 31% identi?ed as B2B marketers, 18% identi?ed as B2C marketers, while another 49% work across B2B and B2C businesses.

El Loco, a start-up based in Emeryville, CA, and founded by long-time Macintosh entrepreneur, Kee Nethery, launched a localization service for IOS developers who want to translate their apps into more than one language without engaging in the time-consuming and highly complex task themselves. Over the past three years, the company has filed numerous patents to simplify key functions of localization so that source code can be continuously and accurately translated for its clients. What El Loco does is localize source code so that translators selected by developers can more easily and accurately translate the app.
