Inkling launched its etextbook platform (also titled Inkling), with the platform's iPad app being available for immediate download. To support the platform, Inkling also announced content development partnerships with publishers, including McGraw-Hill, Wolters Kluwer, and Cengage Learning.

Hearst Magazines has installed a division known as The App Lab in Hearst Tower, New York, with the aim of creating a space in which Hearst's creative team can collaborate with marketers and agency partners in order to more effectively meet consumer expectations. The App Lab initiative will begin in September with educational sessions on emerging mobile content, advertiser and agency roundtables, and consumer insight panels.

Workshare, a developer of document collaboration software, announced the beta program for a new document and email management product, which amplifies the enterprise content management capabilities of Microsoft SharePoint 2010. The product, a collaboration platform targeted towards law firms, allows lawyers to manage documents and email from within their own Microsoft Office applications.

DotNetNuke Corp. released the Enterprise Edition of its widely-used DotNetNuke content management platform. The release includes the new DotNetNuke Content Staging feature, which lets users edit and approve content on a staging server prior to publishing the content on the live site. Indiana University-Bloomington received a $349,000 grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, which will fund research into creating metrics that will measure the scholarly impact of large-scale usage data. The grant will be shared by the National Information Standards Organization and Johan Bollen, an associate professor at the university's School of Informatics and Computing.

A study conducted by Oliver Wyman for Next Issue Media, using Wyman's Future Marketplace Simulation platform, predicted the potential for $3 billion in revenue for interactive, digital publishing products in the U.S. newspaper and magazine industry by 2014. The study surveyed 1,800 U.S. customers, analyzing expected demand across nearly 230 periodicals.

StoredIQ, a creator of compliance, information management, and ediscovery solutions, announced that its Intelligent Information Management (IIM) Platform is now compatible with the Microsoft File Classification Infrastructure (FCI) technology included in Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2. Market research company Quester and digital developer Omnigon are releasing a new service called FeedbackFX with Socrates, an online research tool that allows users to highlight and annotate sections of content. The tool's automated moderator, dubbed Scorates, then analyzes the comments and asks follow-up questions to generate more precise feedback for researchers.

Japanese mobile service NTT DOCOMO, Inc. announced the acquisition of PacketVideo Corporation, formerly a subsidiary of NextWave Wireless Inc. DOCOMO, which had acquired a 35% stake in the phone-based multimedia company in July 2009, purchased the remaining 65% equity interest in PacketVideo for $111.6 million.
