Publishers Communication Group (PCG) and LexisNexis announced a collaboration under which PCG will provide sales, marketing, and customer support for LexisNexis database products to the Brazilian academic, corporate, government, and law markets. PCG will manage the LexisNexis program from its Latin American base in Sao Paulo.

Elsevier announced that VIVO has begun a pilot project to evaluate the process by which Scopus Custom Data can be used to populate institutional VIVO instances. The pilot project, carried out by the VIVO development team at the University of Florida, utilizes a Scopus Custom Data dataset, intending to prove that Scopus Custom Data can be integrated into individual VIVO instances for discovery across the VIVO network.

Amazon.com announced a new update to Kindle for iPad and Kindle for iPhone and iPod touch, which allows readers to enjoy embedded video and audio clips in Kindle books. Quark announced that it has partnered with social computing provider NewsGator to help publishers and other content creators deliver digital content to the iPhone, iPod Touch, and soon, the iPad. Quark Publishing System users can now publish content to Apple's digital devices through a newsreader application created through NewsGator's TapLynx framework.

A merger agreement between EDGAR Online, Inc., and UBmatrix, Inc. resulted in the creation of a global end-to-end provider of solutions for the creation, validation and analysis of extensible business reporting language (XBRL) content. Lijit Networks, a provider of search and discovery tools for online publishers, announced it has closed a $6,000,000 financing round led by Foundry Group. Also participating were Boulder Ventures and Colorado Fund I, managed by High Country Venture. The new investment brings the total venture capital investment in the company since its launch in 2006 to $17,000,000.

A new volume from the Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) examines challenges associated with the transition of research collections from an analog to a digital environment for knowledge access, preservation, and reconstitution. In the report, CLIR president Charles Henry suggests that the transition to digital is altering the way we process information, Lisa Spiro and Geneva Henry of Rice University examine the feasibility of an all-digital research library, and Paul Courant of the University of Michigan and Matthew "Buzzy" Nielsen of the North Bend Public Library in Oregon examine the economics of storing and providing access to print volumes.

OCLC and the National Diet Library (NDL) signed an agreement to make more than 5 million records from NDL more visible and accessible to scholars and researchers worldwide through WorldCat. This new agreement provides for the contribution of the complete contents of the JAPAN/MARC database, the official national bibliography of Japan, to WorldCat on a regular basis.

The Association for Information and Dissemination Centers (ASIDIC) Board has expressed interest regarding a potential merger with the National Federation of Advanced Information Services (NFAIS), a sister organization founded in 1968 that shares many of the same members. The move follows an April recommendation by the ASIDIC Board of Directors that the organization be dissolved, and a subsequent proposal for merger from the NFAIS.
