Fliqz develops video platforms that let websites provide video to users and improve website search engine ranking. The Drupal Associationand community announced the general availability of Drupal 7, the not-for-profit organization's latest web content management platform. Drupal is an open source content management platform already in use by millions of sites, such as WhiteHouse.gov and Warner Media Group. Drupal 7 includes a variety of user experience improvements and is already in use by sites such as Examiner.com.

Google simultaneously announced and released Google One Pass, a new service from the search giant that lets publishers dictate pricing and subscription models for accessing digital content. The service is designed to allow users to access their content on tablets, smartphones, and desktops, using a single sign-on. The service can also accomodate existing subscribers.

Elsevier and the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) reached an agreement to automatically deliver the metadata of 90 J-STAGE journals in SciVerse Scopus. JST has been utilizing Scopus custom data to analyze scientific research in Japan at a national level.

Wiley-Blackwell is partnering with the American Counseling Association to publish their ten formerly self-published journals, beginning in 2012. The Association, which currently manages nineteen chartered divisions and has nearly 45, 000 members, currently manages Adultspan Journal, The Career Development Quarterly, Counseling and Values, Counselor Education and Supervision, The Journal of Addictions & Offender Counseling and several other journals.

Social search firm Greplin announced the completion of a $4 million fund-raising round through Sequoia Capital and Peter Chane. Greplin helps users index and search online social media and communication tools, including Facebook, Gmail, and Twitter. Users can authorize the tool to access their accounts, then conduct searches across them.

According to figures released by DisplaySearch, Apple is now the dominant seller of mobile computers based on units sold, thanks in large part to sales of its popular iPad tablet. The company sold a total of 10.2 million mobile computers (which includes both laptops and tablets) during the fourth quarter of 2010, seizing 17.2% of the total market. Its nearest competitors were HP and Acer, which held shares of 15.6% and 14% respectively.

Access Intelligence will be closing a deal on Feb. 18, to acquire Red 7 Media, producer of event industry brands such as EXPO, Event Marketer, Event Design, and Best Events. AI also recently purchased OR Manager, a media brand and events company targeting OR doctors and managers. Red 7's brands will form a new division in AI, dubbed the Media and Event Marketing Group. The division will be overseen by Kerry Smith, founder and president of Red 7. Smith will also become an SVP at AI.

Springer ebooks can now also be purchased via Google's eBookstore. Google currently holds the biggest collection of Springer ebooks with more than 52,000 books, which is a combination of physically scanned books published prior to 2006 and PDF file submissions since 2006. Springer adds 4,000 newly published titles per year.
