Hoover's, Inc. has signed an agreement with LinkedIn to integrate elements of LinkedIn's functionality into Hoover's online business information platform. Hoover's customers will be able leverage existing connections within the Hoover's workflow.

EBSCO Publishing and JSTOR have agreed to load metadata from academic journals on JSTOR to EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS). Content on JSTOR covers more than 1,000 academic journals across the humanities, social sciences, and sciences, as well as monographs and other materials for academic work.

The NPD Group, Inc. signed an agreement to acquire In-Stat, LLC, an analyst-based research company focused on the mobile and digital entertainment industries. The acquisition will expand NPD's global coverage of analyst businesses in these markets. NPD also owns DisplaySearch, an electronics market research and consulting firm.

Children's publishing company Scholastic, Inc. released online learning resource TrueFlix, which includes digitized nonfiction titles from the Children's Press book series True Books. With the tool, teachers in grades 3-5 can help build students' subject content knowledge in science and social studies. Forty-seven titles to date have been digitized with more to come; topics range from climate change and black holes to the Declaration of Independence.

According to the DisplaySearch Q4'10 Quarterly TV Design and Features Report, internet-connected televisions are forecast to grow to over 122 million in 2014. The report goes on to detail that the growth was fueled by the Japanese market during 2010, and notes that emerging markets such as Eastern Europe will continue driving growth between now and 2014.

Twitter announced that it was acquiring the team that developed Fluther, a social question and answer website. The company is bringing aboard four engineers and a designer from the popular site, including Fluther's founders. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

According to a recent SEC filing by group-coupon site Groupon, the company has already raised $500 million out of an ongoing $1 billion fund-raising round thanks to participation from several investors, including Russian venture capital firm Digital Sky Technologies. The information was derived from a Securities and Exchange Commission form D Notice of Exempt Offering of Securities which was filed by the company on Dec. 30.

Facebook is bringing in a $500 million investment from investment bank Goldman Sachs and Digital Sky Technologies, a Russian venture capital firm that has already contributed roughly half a million dollars to the social networking site, according to unnamed sources cited by the New York Times. The companies themselves declined to comment. If accurate, the deal would raise the market valuation of the company to roughly $50 billion.

Nature Publishing Group (NPG) announced open access options for fifteen additional journals. Forty-one journals published by NPG now offer authors an open access option or are wholly open access, including 80% of its 50 academic and society journals. NPG currently publishes 83 journals, of which 49% offer an open access option to authors.

Amazon delivered an update to its Kindle for Android app that enables users to buy, read, and sync over 100 Kindle-based newspapers and magazines, including The New York Times, Newsweek, and The Atlantic. Users can choose to buy a single issue or subscribe to newspapers and magazines, which will then be automatically delivered to an Android-powered device.

Following several weeks of speculation, it was confirmed on Monday that microblogging service Tumblr received $30 million of additional funding from Sequoia Capital, Union Square Ventures, and Spark Capital. Although information about the funding deal had been scarce, an SEC filing detailing the financing surfaced over the weekend, where it was uncovered by several news sites and blogs, including TechCrunch.

The company has organized and processed some 100,000 events through its platform since 2009. The acquisition price comprises a number of components.
