MarkLogic Corporation announced that its database is now being used to help power the content platform of Zinio, which according to the company is the world's largest digital newsstand. Zinio, allows consumers to get instant access, search, and organization for millions of digital news and entertainment articles. According to the companies, MarkLogic was selected because of its ability to scale to large datasets, as well as the ability to rapidly perform searches.

Information management and data recovery firm Kroll Ontrack released Ontrack PowerControls version 6.1, an enhancement that gives users the ability to open and read SharePoint 2010 data, as well as connect to SharePoint 2010 targets. ChinaNet Online Holdings, Inc., a full-service B2B Internet service provider that helps small and medium-sized enterprises expand their sales networks in China, announced the launch of a mobile platform that includes SMS text functionality to drive increased traffic to its 28.com portal. ChinaNet's mobile platform is formatted to display franchise information for all wireless phones, including smartphones. Initial testing of the platform began in December 2010 and was formally rolled out to customers on March 1.

IBM announced its $38 million investment in the new IBM Asia Pacific Cloud Computing Data Center in Singapore, which aims to provide businesses with cloud computing solutions and services. The facility, which is scheduled to launch in April, will extend IBM's global network and make its cloud services and technology portfolio available through the cloud delivery infrastructure.

According to figures released by DisplaySearch, Apple is now the dominant seller of mobile computers based on units sold, thanks in large part to sales of its popular iPad tablet. The company sold a total of 10.2 million mobile computers (which includes both laptops and tablets) during the fourth quarter of 2010, seizing 17.2% of the total market. Its nearest competitors were HP and Acer, which held shares of 15.6% and 14% respectively.

AI also recently purchased OR Manager, a media brand and events company targeting OR doctors and managers. Red 7's brands will form a new division in AI, dubbed the Media and Event Marketing Group. Springer ebooks can now also be purchased via Google's eBookstore. Google currently holds the biggest collection of Springer ebooks with more than 52,000 books, which is a combination of physically scanned books published prior to 2006 and PDF file submissions since 2006. Springer adds 4,000 newly published titles per year.
