France's National Library, BnF, established a partnership with the Jouve Group, Safig, and Diadies to digitize more than 70,000 of its works each year. Roughly 70% of these books will come from the print collections of the BnF, while the remaining 30% will come from the collections of partner libraries. The project will be financed by the Centre National du Livre and is currently slated for a three-year period.

Rackspace Hosting, through a partnership with Akamai, is adding CNAMES to its overall Cloud Files product offering, letting customers include cloud files in site URLs. Rackspace Cloud Files gives businesses tools for building new applications in the cloud. Cloud Files is built on OpenStack's Object Storage technology and serves content through its Akamai-based Content Delivery Network (CDN) offering.

The United States Patent and Trademark Office awarded a patent to ProQuest's Deep Indexing, granting the company patent protection on the CSA Illustrata technology. ProQuest extracts and indexes data about graphic objects in journal literature to allow it to be searched as if it were full text. Deep indexing was pioneered in CSA Illustrata, and is now available in the new ProQuest platform.

MUZU.TV and Metacafe signed a content deal that extends MUZU.TV's collection of 85,000 music videos to Metacafe's users. Next month, video content from four major record labels and independent artists will be accessible to Metacafe 10 million European monthly users. Users outside of Europe, including those in the U.S., will be able to access MUZU.TV's independent catalogue, expanding the content's geographic reach.

The University of Michigan Library announced that 2,231 titles from Eighteenth Century Collections Online (ECCO) are now available to the public as searchable digital editions, thanks to the Text Creation Partnership (TCP). TCP, a partnership between the University of Michigan and Oxford University, produced the keyed-text editions in collaboration with Gale, part of Cengage Learning, which publishes ECCO and provided the page images.

The Tiki Community announced that Tiki 7, the first beta release of the next collection of Tiki Wiki CMS Groupware, is now available. The edition contains added features as well as hundreds of fixes for problems in the last version, Tiki 6.0. When the finalized version of Tiki 7 is available, Tiki 6.3 will replace Tiki 3.8 as the Long Term Support (LTS) release.

BaseKit announced that it has raised $6.5m in venture capital funding from Nauta Capital, Eden Ventures, and the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (NESTA) from a second round of funding. The recent funding round increases total investment in the British-based company to a combined $10m in the past year. According to BaseKit, the company plans to use the funds to expand its global reach and open new offices in Barcelona, Sao Paolo, Mexico DF, Buenos Aires, and San Francisco.

A deal between EBSCO Publishing (EBSCO) and World Book, Inc. (World Book) is adding twelve popular reference tools from World Book into EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS). The additions including metadata and full-text searching for World Book resources within the EDS Base Index. Mellon Foundation to develop and test a method of conducting open, public online peer-to-peer review of scholarly monographs and journal articles. Alexander Street plans to expand its offerings to include more than 10,000 titles in 2011, followed by a further expansion to 20,000 titles by 2013.
