Alfresco, an open platform for social content management, previewed the Activiti Business Process Management (BPM) workflow engine integrated with Alfresco. Activiti is compliant with the industry standard BPMN 2.0 and extends Alfresco's workflow features by giving developers the ability to create process flows between Alfresco and other business applications. Quark is releasing QuarkXPress Server 9, the latest version of Quark's dynamic publishing server for systems integrators and application developers. BaseKit announced that it has raised $6.5m in venture capital funding from Nauta Capital, Eden Ventures, and the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (NESTA) from a second round of funding. The recent funding round increases total investment in the British-based company to a combined $10m in the past year. According to BaseKit, the company plans to use the funds to expand its global reach and open new offices in Barcelona, Sao Paolo, Mexico DF, Buenos Aires, and San Francisco.

A deal between EBSCO Publishing (EBSCO) and World Book, Inc. (World Book) is adding twelve popular reference tools from World Book into EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS). The additions including metadata and full-text searching for World Book resources within the EDS Base Index. The twelve World Book resources that are being added to EDS include popular English language titles, plus French and Spanish language reference tools.

NYU Press announced that it has been awarded a grant of $50,000 from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to develop and test a method of conducting open, public online peer-to-peer review of scholarly monographs and journal articles. NYUP, which is part of the NYU Division of Libraries, will work with the MediaCommons a digital scholarly network, which is affiliated with both NYU Libraries and the Institute for the Future of the Book.

Electronic publisher Alexander Street Press announced plans to launch an integrated online repository of academic video titles. Alexander Street plans to expand its offerings to include more than 10,000 titles in 2011, followed by a further expansion to 20,000 titles by 2013. The integrated online repository, Academic Video Online Complete, will also let subscribers cross-search videos throughout the platform from a single interface.

CRM vendor Salesforce.com announced that it will be acquiring social media tool developer Radian6 for $340 million, representing $276 million in cash up-front as well as $50 million in stock. $4 million in cash will also go to the founders of Radian6, subject to conditions over the next 2 years. The deal is expected to close by July 31.
