Brainshark, Inc., announced enhancements that provide mobile viewers with a more interactive experience, featuring a new module called "Brainshark Enhanced Mobile," a Flash-based mobile player, and updates to its iOS apps. Dawson Books and Semantico, a provider of online publishing services and technology, have agreed to a major program of updates to dawsonera, a publishing platform that allows libraries to build tailored collections of ebooks. CRM vendor Salesforce.com announced that it will be acquiring social media tool developer Radian6 for $340 million, representing $276 million in cash up-front as well as $50 million in stock. $4 million in cash will also go to the founders of Radian6, subject to conditions over the next 2 years. The deal is expected to close by July 31.

Gale, part of Cengage Learning, and Portico, a part of the not-for-profit organization ITHAKA, announced that Gale will be preserving three additional digital historical collections with Portico. This follows the completed adoption of 10 Gale Digital Collections, including 19th Century U.S. Newspapers, The Making of Modern Law: Primary Resources and Eighteenth Century Collections Online. The collection represents over 80 million files, which doubled the size of the Portico archive in just one year.

New research released by Publishing Technology at BML's annual Books & Consumers Conference found that a third of UK trade publishers surveyed predict that over 10% of their total book revenue will come from ebooks by 2012. The research project was conducted by BML and aimed to survey a selection of hand-picked senior executives at top publishers in the UK publishing industry.

The Meltwater Group, a social media and news monitoring company, announced the acquisition of social CRM software JitterJam. The companies plan to focus on creating tools for tracking and engaging customers for marketing, communications, and advertising professionals. The purchase was made for $6 million, and per the terms of the agreement all of JitterJam's employees will be joining Meltwater.

AT&T agreed to acquire T-Mobile USA from Deutsche Telekom for $39 billion of combined cash and stock. An agreement between EBSCO and IGI Global will allow metadata for 131 journals and more than 1,500 reference books to be added to the base index of EDS. IGI Global is an international publishing company that specializes in scholarly research publications and databases.
