Cengage Learning announced an expanded partnership with the National Geographic Society through which it will acquire the National Geographic Society's digital and print school publishing unit. The new agreement also allows Cengage Learning a wider use of the National Geographic Society brand and content.

Copyright Clearance Center, Inc. (CCC) announced that academic institutions using its Pay-Per-Use Services would be able to obtain reuse rights for entire books, including some that are commercially unavailable. CCC enables publishers to offer reuse rights for their books.

OverDrive announced that Thomas Nelson, Encyclopedia Britannica, Crabtree Publishing, and Lonely Planet will provide simultaneous access ebooks to OverDrive's global network, enabling libraries and schools to provide "always available" ebooks without waiting lists or holds.

ProQuest linked ebrary's search platform to its own, which enables users to discover multiple formats from multiple content sources. Leveraging tools from both platforms, users can discover search results that include ebrary's ebook content along with ProQuest's relevant reports, videos, and articles, and access the full text of the result from either source.

Hulu may be up for sale, if the owners can make up their minds. The free TV-streaming site is co-owned by Disney, NBCUniversal, News Corporation, and Providence Equity Partners, the parent corporations of major TV networks ABC, NBC, and Fox. Hulu began to look into options for its sale last week after an unsolicited overture from Yahoo!, and the company is expected to meet with potential buyers in the coming weeks.

Serials Solutions, a business unit of ProQuest LLC, and Elsevier announced that the full-text of SciVerse ScienceDirect content will be indexed within Serials Solutions' Summon web-scale discovery service. Once the indexing is complete, researchers will be able to search the full text of all ScienceDirect journal articles and ebooks via the Summon service.

OverDrive announced that booksellers, libraries, and schools in its global network will be able to access 1,500 DRM-free ebook titles from O'Reilly Media. The publisher's entire ebook catalog will be available to OverDrive's channel partners, including those in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and other territories. Bestselling ebooks on computer technologies available through the distribution agreement will include iPad 2: The Missing Manual, Head First Java, and Windows 7: Up & Running.

Springer Science+Business Media launched SpringerReference.com, a new platform for researchers and both academic and corporate libraries. The site offers editions of Springer's e-references well in advance of their print editions across every subject. Scientists can use the platform to submit updates to articles whenever they want. SpringerReference.com is designed to offer a way to quickly publish major reference works, which need to be constantly updated.

Ereading company Kobo awarded Buena Park High School with 100 new Kobo Touch eReaders, $3,000 in ebooks as well as promotional posters, t-shirts, and program guides to support the school's goal of introducing a digital ereading program into their curriculum. Figures released by IAB Europe showed a revival in digital Display in 2010, according to the group. Thanks to an average growth rate of 21.3%, the organization reports that Display overtook Search advertising as the fastest growing online ad format in Europe.
