OpenCMS 8 was made available for download, developed by Alkacon Software GmbH with the support of the international OpenCMS developer community. OpenCMS 8 is a major release that prominently features an improved user interface and an "Advanced Direct Edit" mode, which allows content managers to create page content through drag and drop. The new sitemap editor allows lets users create new pages and rearrange the navigation tree.

Workshare, a provider of document collaboration software, released Workshare Compare Server 5.23, an upgrade to the company's server-based document collaboration solution. The updated version provides support for additional output file formats for comparison and can be used with a company's existing enterprise content management system or Microsoft SharePoint. The solution is designed to streamline document approval processes by identifying and reviewing a summary of the document changes, rather than going page by page to review each change.

Software development and technology firm Systems Alliance released Enhancement Pack 1 (EP1) for SiteExecutive 2011, a software update for the company's flagship CMS. Trivantis, the company behind the Lectora e-learning brand, announced the company's plans to acquire its partner Flypaper Studio, Inc., providers of a Flash content creation and digital signage platform. The transaction is planned to combine Trivantis' experience in the e-learning industry with the Flash and digital signage markets targeted by the Flypaper platform.

Oxygen Accelerator, a new investment program that offers technology start ups intensive mentoring and training, was launched today in Birmingham, U.K. Oxygen Accelerator will partner with Birmingham Science Park Aston (BSPA) to offer 10 teams evergreen funding of up to £20,000 (about $32,800 U.S.), which is repayable once sufficient investment is received or the business can afford to repay it. The 10 teams will attend a 13-week boot camp in BSPA starting Sept. 1, 2011, where their projects will receive direction from a team of mentors.

Cabinet NG announced the latest version of CNG-SAFE 7.0, which offers scheduling, document management, and workflow management capabilities. Before the release, previous versions only offered document and workflow management, and users had to manage scheduling in a separate system. In CNG-SAFE 7.0, the embedded scheduling tool allows schedules to be assigned at the cabinet, folder, and document levels.

France's National Library, BnF, established a partnership with the Jouve Group, Safig, and Diadies to digitize more than 70,000 of its works each year. Roughly 70% of these books will come from the print collections of the BnF, while the remaining 30% will come from the collections of partner libraries. The project will be financed by the Centre National du Livre and is currently slated for a three-year period.

Rackspace Cloud Files gives businesses tools for building new applications in the cloud. The United States Patent and Trademark Office awarded a patent to ProQuest's Deep Indexing, granting the company patent protection on the CSA Illustrata technology. ProQuest extracts and indexes data about graphic objects in journal literature to allow it to be searched as if it were full text. Deep indexing was pioneered in CSA Illustrata, and is now available in the new ProQuest platform.

The University of Michigan Library announced that 2,231 titles from Eighteenth Century Collections Online (ECCO) are now available to the public as searchable digital editions, thanks to the Text Creation Partnership (TCP). TCP, a partnership between the University of Michigan and Oxford University, produced the keyed-text editions in collaboration with Gale, part of Cengage Learning, which publishes ECCO and provided the page images.
