Netflix, Inc. and BBC have joined forces in order to offer BBC Worldwide programs, such as Doctor Who and Top Gear, to subscribers upon Netflix's U.K. launch early next year. Financial terms were not disclosed but the deal is non-exclusive.

Skyword, a content farm, secured $6 million in funding from Cox Media Group, Inc., a broadcasting, publishing, direct marketing, and digital media company. Cox is the sole investor in the company, and a Cox representative, not yet publicly named, will join Skyword's board of directors.

Condé Nast and Random House, Inc. have partnered to bring 75 Random House digital cookbooks to Condé Nast's cooking site, Epicurious. In the future, Epicurious reportedly plans to team up with other publishers to expand its offering. The digital cookbooks range in price from $10.99 to $24.99.

Yesterday, AT&T, Inc. renounced its $39 billion bid for T-Mobile USA, Inc., owned by Deutsche Telekom AG. AT&T will have to pay Deutsche Telekom $4 billion for breaking the deal off, but the companies also just announced a joint roaming agreement.

Swets signed contracts with Brepols Publishers NV, Cairn.info, Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), NecPlus, and RMIT Publishing. Future publications by these publishers will be available in Swets' ejournal gateway, SwetsWise Online Content.

Ahead of the release of the Harry Potter ebooks and digital audiobooks, J. K. Rowling's Pottermore.com is running a survey on e-reading habits. Pottermore was originally scheduled to open shop in October, but due to concerns about heavy traffic, the launch was pushed back to sometime in the first half of 2012.

Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Alsaud of Saudi Arabia and his investment group, Kingdom Holding Co., have invested $300 million in Twitter. With this latest investment, Twitter is valued at $10 billion. Earlier this year, Twitter received $800 million from Digital Sky Technologies (DST) Global, of Russia.

PayPal will partner with 200 U.S. merchants to start offering coupons for mobile deals in 1Q 2012, according to Daily Deal Media. PayPal, owned by eBay, Inc., plans to enter the daily deals market dominated by Groupon, Inc. and LivingSocial by offering daily coupons tailored to users' buying habits and locations.

ebrary announced the results of its Download Survey for which it asked more than 1,000 participating librarians about mobile and offline access to ebooks. Patrons value the portability of ebooks, which led 92% of respondents to say that providing offline access to ebooks was at least as important as providing online access to them, if not more so.

According to the post: "We've resisted advertising so far because most of it we had seen wasn't terribly tasteful, and it seemed like Google's AdSense was the state-of-the-art, which was sad. You pour a lot of time and effort into your blog and you deserve better than AdSense."

Pearson, PLC is selling its 50-percent stake in the FTSE International Ltd. to the London Stock Exchange, PLC for £450 million ($700 million) in cash. Currently, Pearson and London Stock Exchange Group each own 50 percent of FTSE. The sale is expected to close by 1Q 2012.

LivingSocial is reportedly in the process of raising $400 million to support its operations, according to Daily Deal Media. This round of funding could bring the daily deals provider's value to about $6 billion. Amazon announced new publishing options for independent authors through an initiative called KDP Select. KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing) is Amazon's self-publishing service for authors and publishers; with KDP Select, KDP authors that choose to make their books exclusive to the Kindle Store for at least 90 days are eligible to earn a share of a $6 million annual fund.

Facebook has launched a counter lawsuit against Timelines, Inc., the company that sued Facebook for trademark infringement in September after Facebook announced its new feature called Timeline. Facebook's countersuit argues that "timeline" is not a valid trademark because it is a generic term, one that is used in features on at least 10 other websites, including Google.
