Despite the growth of digital magazine sales in the UK, overall magazine subscriptions continued to fall across the UK, according to paidContent. Statistics show that from the second half of 2011 to the first half of 2012, the digital magazine business has doubled in terms of average monthly circulation. But that percentage of subscribers only accounts for 0.73% of total subscribers.

Twitter will be changing how its API is being used in the coming weeks and moving developers from the current version 1.0 to the new version 1.1. According to a company blog, three significant changes to the API will be required authentication on every API endpoint, a new per-endpoint rate-limiting methodology, and changes to the company's Developer Rules of the Road in regards to applications that are traditional Twitter clients.

Amazon has unveiled a new extension for Chrome users called "Send to Kindle." With this button, users can send stories, blog posts, and other content to Kindle devices and apps. According to CNET, users will have the ability to read the content on one device and pick up where it was left off on another.

Cloud computing company, Salesforce.com, announced the company will be expanding its lineup of social networking and collaboration services with a new service called Communities. The company says this new service will allow businesses to connect employees, customers, and partners in a single space. Salesforce has a networking program, Chatter, which connects businesses to employees but the company saw the need to expand that reach to include customers and other businesses to create a virtual enterprise.

Provider of search engine and social optimization software company, SEOmoz (Moz), has acquired Followerwonk, a Twitter analytics company. Moz believes the company will be able to expand Followerwonk's capabilities, which currently include Twitter profile searches, user comparison, and analysis through visual graphs.

The lock-up period for one group of private Facebook shares has expired, and the once private stock has been flooding the market, according to USA Today. In total, 271 millions shares will be unlocked this week, allowing early investors, employees, and the like to sell their stock.

The company wrote in an email to readers that it has decided to institute a paid-access plan to place a specific value on the site's content. Social-bookmarking service, Pinterest, has released an app for the iPad and Android devices, according to CNN. Despite the site's popularity, Pinterest only had an app available for iPhone and with the growing number of Android users, the company felt it was time to release an app for that audience.

Microsoft has stopped publishing new apps for Windows Phone on Marketplace, according to PC World. The issue stems from a problem with digital certificates which have prevented users of phones that upgraded to Windows Phone 7.5 from installing or updating certain apps.

A new collaborative, online publishing tool, Medium, has been announced. The brainchild of Twitter co-founders Evan Williams and Biz Stone, Medium is designed to allow users to collaborate on works being published on the site, according to the company blog. After reading a work, users can indicate if they liked it, give feedback to the writer, and add to it. Once a work is posted, it will be organized into "collections", which are defined by a theme and a template.

Academic publisher, John Wiley & Sons, announced revised licensing arrangements for journals published under the Wiley Open Access program. The journals will adopt the Creative Commons Attribution license which will allow for commercial use of published articles.

The Federal Trade Commission claims that Facebook deceived developers over security ratings due to a lacking review and verification process, according to ZDNet. The investigation by the FTC found that Facebook did not take the proper steps to review applications the company was supposed to review which could have led to dangerous software getting promoted on Facebook.

When Facebook went public this year, the company released a limited amount of shares for the general public to buy, as is common practice. The other shares were privately held by angel investors and venture-capital firms that invested in the company early on. According to the Wall Street Journal, a large number of those shares could be unlocking and flooding the market as soon as this week.

Ebook lending site, LendInk, was suspended after a series of cease and desist letters were sent to the website's host from a number of authors, according to Geekosystem. LendInk worked by matching up those who wish to borrow books with those looking to loan them. Once the two parties found each other, they were then directed to a digital book company's website, such as Amazon or Barnes and Noble, where the loan could be completed. LendInk is currently offline.

There is growing speculation that Amazon is set to release the newest version of the company's popular e-reader, Kindle. According to the LA Times, the company listed a number of Kindle and Kindle-related products at deeply discounted prices on the Amazon website, such as the Kindle DX, which was listed at $110 off its regular price.

The American Library Association (ALA) released a report which summarizes current business models for library ebook acquisition, according to Digital Book World. With this report, the ALA recommends new standards and structures to go along with ebook acquisitions and concludes that ebook publishing is growing and evolving at a very rapid pace, making it difficult for libraries to keep pace.

Social media company, LinkedIn, released its second quarter earnings last week and the company's revenue numbers were up, according to Business Insider. LinkedIn took in a total of $228 million in revenue, compared to $121 million during the same quarter last year. The advertising revenue grew from $38 million during the second quarter of 2011 to $63 million during the second quarter of 2012.

Microsoft has been granted a patent for contextual ebook ads, according to Engadget. This means that ebooks could now have advertisements while users are reading. There is speculation as to how this might work, in that companies can try to sell ads in certain genres. Sports companies could find a market to advertise to in sports-related books, etc.

The New York Police Department plans to subpoena Twitter to release the name and information of the user who threatened to attack a New York theater. According to ABC News, the user wrote how he or she would attack the theater in a similar manner to how James Holmes killed 12 people during a showing of The Dark Knight Rises. While the NYPD had asked Twitter to hand over the information, the social media company has so far refused.

Vodka maker, Smirnoff, faced an advertising complaint in Australia after users left comments on the company's Facebook page that depicted "obscenity, sexism, racism, and depictions of irresponsible drinking." The complaint was put before the Advertising Standards Board (ASB), Australia's governing body which ensures advertisers to ensure that ads are truthful and respectful.

Amazon UK is reporting it's selling more ebooks than print books. According to ZDNet, this news comes two years after the Kindle became available to the UK. Company statistics cite that for every 100 print books sold, there are 114 ebooks sold.

Court documents show that when Google invested $180 million to scan and make books available online, one of the driving forces of that effort was to take on Amazon, according to Biz Journals. Google is being sued by the Author's Guild and court papers show that one of the main goals of scanning books was to have consumers look on Google's websites instead of Amazon's.

With this app, iPhone users will be able to change the interface to be visualized as a rotating wheel, offering a game-like interface for Twitter. Digital publisher and multimedia content company, Open Road Media, has partnered up with BlogHer, a media network and publisher for women. As a result of this pairing, The BlogHer Voices of the Year: 2012 will be published as an ebook anthology. The selections for the anthology were chosen from a committee which selected 110 works from nearly 1,700 submissions. Open Road Media did not say when the anthology would be published.

According to the company, listener hours during July were 1.12 billion, which is an increase of 76% from the same time last year. The share of total US radio for Pandora in July was 6.13%, which is an increase from the 3.51% it had last year.

iPad users will be able to watch a lot more video as Amazon's Instant Video app is now available for the tablet, according to NPR. With this app, users can play all 120,000 titles in Amazon's video library for both rent and purchase. Those subscribed to Amazon Prime will be able to watch over 20,000 videos at no additional charge.

In one tweet, Adams posted the corporate email address of Gary Zenkel, president of NBC Olympics, so followers could email him with their displeasure.
