ProQuest has added more than 1,650 ebook titles from publishers such as Wiley and Wolters Kluwer Health to Academic Complete, the flagship ebook database from ebrary. The new content will help improve research outcomes, while a new enhancement for the database - LibraryThing for Libraries Book Display Widget -- will enable libraries to easily display the titles visually for better discoverability and usage.

EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) has increased the number of databases included in its policy for metadata sharing and technology collaboration partnerships with discover vendors. Now, EBSCO makes all metadata -- and full text when contractually allowed -- available for a new total of 179 EBSCO full-text databases, as well as all 74 EBSCO full-text historical digital archives and all 550,000+ EBSCO ebooks.

Fans of The Colbert Report have probably already heard that Amazon is in a tiff with Hachette publishers. While Hachette and Amazon haggle over a new contract, Amazon has made Hachette books unavailable for pre-order and shipments of its books are being delayed. Hachette, however, is not the only company in Amazon's crosshairs. Warner Bros. is having similar problems regarding its upcoming DVD releases for titles like The Lego Movie, according to Gigaom.

Vdopia, a provider of mobile video advertising, reports that smartphone advertising is having a significant impact on the way that consumers interact with various forms of entertainment. The number of people who consumed entertainment content on their smartphones ever in a month jumped 28% in the past year to 109 million. Buying movie or event tickets via mobile has grown nearly 40% in the past year. Mobile entertainment audiences not only are twice as likely to click on mobile ads but 45% recall seeing ads vs. only 24% for non-mobile entertainment audiences.

Apple announced the new iOS 8 software development kit, which includes the HomeKit--among others like HealthKit. The kits are frameworks to deal with one-off devices sold by different companies but often used by the same user. In a sense, the HomeKit would turn your iPhone in a sort of universal remote for your house.

Publishers have surprisingly little knowledge of which and how mhing any third-party companies - such as Google, advertising vendors, and others - are accessing and profiting from their user and audience data. The Cxense Publishing Profitability Survey, a survey of more than 380 qualified US publishing executives, conducted in conjunction with Editor and Publisher magazine, showed that nearly 80% of respondents simply do not know who accesses their audience data. The survey results were released at the International News Media Association (INMA) World Congress by Cxense.
