Kaltura, provider of video technology platforms, announced a Universal DRM (Digital Rights Management) solution, adding support for DASH and the Common Encryption (CENC) standard, which enables media companies, content rights owners, and OTT providers to stream premium content without needing to worry about which browser, device, or platform is being used. The solution also aims to reduce storage costs and integration fees. With Google and others moving to deprecate or disable existing content protection systems, and Google choosing to disable NPAPI (Netscape Plugin Application Programming Interface) support in the Chrome browser in April 2015, Kaltura's Modular DRM allows video service providers to transition without disrupting service.

Americans are more likely to subscribe to Amazon Prime for free two-day shipping than for Prime Instant Video. Additionally, in the U.S. when they do subscribe, people are more likely to use Netflix than Prime Instant Video, according to global intelligence firm Strategy Analytics. In fact, nearly two-thirds (63%) of Amazon Prime subscribers used Netflix in the previous month compared to 59% who used Prime Instant Video.

Here's how it works: You log into Riff using your Facebook account, enter a hashtag subject, and record a video that is up to 20 seconds long. You can then post it to your Facebook page where your friends can pick up the thread and add their own video. Then their friends can chime in and so on. There is currently no limit to how long these conversations can get.

Good news for cord-cutters has been coming fast and furious in 2015. The latest on this theme is a report from the Wall Street Journal that Apple is planning to go a step beyond Apple TV, and actually "offer a slimmed-down bundle of TV networks this fall." Many of these channels would be broadcast channels like ABC and NBC (which you can get for free via an antenna), but would total about 25 channels.

While you may not be able to get HBO Go on your Playstation, HBO Now-the network's new streaming service-is coming to Apple TV in April, and if you sign up right away, you will get the service free for 30-days. The catch, of course, is that you need an Apple device. Engadget reports that Apple has an exclusive three-month contract with HBO, preventing anyone else from selling subscriptions. And though you can watch on your Mac or iPad later, you'll need an Apple TV to sign up initially.

Over half (54%) of chief marketing officers (CMOs) surveyed said they use digital video to supplement TV as a holistic strategy, but only 31% align their budgets for TV and digital advertising spend. This separation leads to a disconnect between the value of each medium, as just over half (52%) claim that they have different expectations across the platforms. In addition, three quarters of CMOs say that they measure reach the same way for both TV and digital video but only one-third see Nielsen as the ongoing foundation of their reach metrics.

If you're a Comcast customer who has been looking forward to using the HBO Go app on your Playstation 4, you're probably very upset right about now. As TechDirt reports, Comcast is basically refusing to confirm that you are a paying cable customer, which results in customers not being allowed to use the service. This has been a problem before with other devices, like Roku boxes, which was only resolved when Roku filed an FCC complaint.
