Nude photos of about 20 celebrities appeared on 4chan over the weekend, and speculation quickly led to Apple's iCloud taking much of the blame. But Business Insider's James Cook is skeptical that anyone actually hacked Apple's encrypted iCloud. Instead, he thinks it is more likely that the thief used "social engineering" to gain access to the celebrities' accounts the old-fashioned way, by simply guessing their passwords.

After Amazon posted on its blog, claiming that it's disagreements with Hachette are over ebook prices and its percentage of the sales cut, Hachette talked to the New York Times to dispute Amazon's version. Hachette says Amazon has been demanding payment for what the publisher considers standard service, like the pre-order button and a dedicated employee at Amazon who handles Hachette business.

Facebook warned users that it would be moving its messaging function out of its flagship mobile app and to its own app, but that didn't stop an outcry from happening when the change finally came. While the app quickly zoomed to the top of the iOS App Store charts it also received abysmal reviews-though some of those reviews seemed more like sour grapes than an actual critique of the app's functions. But privacy concerns are being raised as well.

Gannett, the owner of USA Today announced on August 5 that it will create a new company for its print products in 2015. On the digital side, it owns CareerBuilder and Cars.com. Even though most brands still can't run ads on Instagram, they are highly active on the social network. According to AdWeek and data from Shareablee, "Facebook garnered 2.5 million brand posts, a year-over-growth of 22 percent" while "Instagram had 493,000 of such posts, a 49 percent year-over-year jump." But Instagram is beating Facebook in total actions per post.

According to Re/code, Facebook is about to end its Gifts service. For many, the biggest surprise here is that Facebook still had its Gifts program. The idea was that Facebook would encourage users to order and send gifts to their friends, but about a year ago it discontinued the physical part of the gifts program. Now it's ending the part that suggested you send digital gift cards to friends.

A blog post on Amazon's Kindle forum gave some insight into the ongoing feud between the internet retailer and Hachette, one of the Big 5 publishers. Negotiations broke down months ago, and Amazon stopped allowing pre-orders of Hachette books and users reported delayed shipping on the publisher's books. Many asked if Amazon had too much power including big name authors. Now, Amazon is making it clear what's at stake: lower ebook prices and 30% cut for Amazon.

A survey of 400 marketers, conducted by OneSpot and The 614 Group, found that targeting precision is the top attribute that marketers value (65%) when it comes to distribution of the content marketing campaign but 47% of respondents said that they are not satisfied with their ability to target content distribution to the right audience. When scrutinizing the reasons behind this dissatisfaction, the study reveals that the number one (87%) method of distribution for content marketing programs is a company's own website.

Zillow, Inc. announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Trulia, Inc. for $3.5 billion in a stock-for-stock transaction. The Boards of Directors of both companies have approved the transaction, which is expected to close in 2015. The combined company will maintain both the Zillow and Trulia consumer brands, offering buyers, sellers, homeowners, and renters access to vital information about homes and real estate for free, and providing advertising and software solutions that help real estate professionals.
